When Jenna signed up to save money on her utility bill, she didn’t realize she was being deceived. It was only when CCLS held a workshop at her senior facility that she realized she was tricked into signing a contract with a new utility company. By making deceptive claims regarding the company’s rates and services, many of the residents were convinced to switch to this new company. Jenna was shocked to learn the representative lied to her.

Fortunately for Jenna and the others, CCLS assisted in canceling this new service and convinced the gas company to waive their $100 cancellation fee. Jenna and her neighbors are protected from these deceitful practices and can avoid similar problems in the future. Workshops like these are just another way in which your support of CCLS is protecting our neighbors from injustice and creating a stronger community.

These educational activities are made possible with support from the Community Help and Awareness of Natural Gas and Electricity Services (CHANGES). Since 2010, thirty-five community organizations throughout California assist Limited English Proficiency and under-served communities. Funded by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) through Self Help for The Elderly, CHANGES assists clients resolve disputes with third party gas companies (Gas Aggregation); appealing CARE cancellations due to high energy users and arranging payment plans on past due bills.
