Expungement
Criminal records expungement
If you have convictions in the State of California, you may be eligible to have your criminal record expunged. When your record is expunged, your convictions will no longer appear in certain types of background checks, opening more opportunities for you.
Through our criminal records expungement process, CCLS and its community partners assess your eligibility for expungement. If you are eligible, CCLS or its partners will prepare a petition asking for expungement. You will meet with a volunteer lawyer or paralegal by Zoom to prepare a statement to file in court in support of your petition for expungement. CCLS or its partners will file all the necessary papers in court on your behalf.
To begin the process, please contact our Legal Advice Line at (800) 675-8001 or (559) 570-1200. You can also apply online.
