Veterans' Legal Services Project
Serving those who served
Join us at one of these upcoming Special Events!
Throughout its history, CCLS has proudly provided free civil legal services to our community’s veterans. In 2024, CCLS was awarded funding to launch its Veterans’ Legal Services Project (VLSP), with a team dedicated to veterans’ legal needs. Through the VLSP, eligible veterans receive free civil legal services designed to increase housing stability within our veteran community.
According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, nine of the top ten unmet needs of veterans experiencing homelessness are legal needs. According to the Legal Services Corporation, approximately 70% of veteran households face at least one civil legal challenge per year. Of those households, 21% face six or more legal challenges.
The VLSP provides comprehensive legal assistance to eligible veterans in the Central Valley. By offering free legal consulting, advocacy, and representation, we empower veterans to overcome barriers related to housing, benefits, healthcare access, and more. We collaborate with community organizations and volunteers to help eligible veterans receive the care and justice they deserve, fostering stability and a path to a brighter future.
Getting started
- What Can the VLSP Help You With?
All of CCLS’ legal services are offered to eligible veterans. We provide a range of civil legal services through our Housing, Family Violence, Guardianship, Health, Seniors, and Benefits teams.
We collaborate with community organizations and volunteer lawyers to host free veterans' legal clinics for eligible veterans, providing services in the areas of criminal records expungement, small claims advice, bankruptcy/consumer debt advice, family law, estate planning, contracts, consumer fraud, and other general civil matters.
We also provide supported referrals to veterans seeking discharge upgrades or veterans' benefits assistance to appropriate community partners.
- Who is Eligible?
Eligibility for services from the VLSP is the same as eligibility for all CCLS services. Please visit our Eligibility page for more information.
