Workers’ Rights Clinic

This is a volunteer opportunity for passionate students to serve as legal counselors at the Workers’ Rights Clinic hosted by CCLS and Legal Aid at Work. In addition to being a public service opportunity, this is a program developed to educate and mentor students interested in pursuing social justice legal careers. The Clinic is designed to introduce students – especially those from underrepresented backgrounds – to the legal community and career opportunities. Duties: Student volunteers will conduct one-on-one interviews with Clinic participants and complete research under the supervision of an employment law attorney to provide Clinic participants legal information. Students will encounter and become familiar with a broad range of legal issues, including, among other things, employment discrimination, wage theft, health and safety violations, and family-medical leaves. Time Commitment: The volunteer opportunity will run from September 13, 2024 to April 15, 2025. Students may apply for the fall semester only; however, applicants applying for the entire school year will be given preference. The Clinic is remote only. Clinics are generally held from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. on 3rd Tuesdays (unless otherwise instructed). Before every Clinic, volunteers will train from approximately 5:30 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on selected employment law topics relevant to Clinic counseling. After training, volunteers will conduct intakes over the phone with assigned Clinic participants. The Clinic generally lasts 3-4 hours.
