Expungement

Criminal records expungement

If you have convictions in the State of California, you may be eligible to have your criminal record expunged.  When your record is expunged, your convictions will no longer appear in certain types of background checks, opening more opportunities for you.

Through our criminal records expungement process, CCLS and its community partners assess your eligibility for expungement.  If you are eligible, CCLS or its partners will prepare a petition asking for expungement.  You will meet with a volunteer lawyer or paralegal by Zoom to prepare a statement to file in court in support of your petition for expungement.  CCLS or its partners will file all the necessary papers in court on your behalf.

We are not currently accepting new applicants for expungement services.

Our offices are closed on Thursday June 18, 2026 for Staff Training and on Friday June 19, 2026 in observance the Juneteenth holiday.

We will reopen Monday, June 22, 2026 at 8:30 a.m.
