Civil Appeals

The Civil Appellate Self-Help Workshop-Central Valley is designed to provide information for people representing themselves in a California Court of Appeal.  The workshop is for civil appeals only (not criminal) and for appeals from the Superior Court to the Court of Appeal (not for appeals to the Superior Court’s appellate division).

During the workshop, we will tell you about appellate procedures and rules; explain unfamiliar words; tell you about sources of information to help you prepare for your appeal; and provide hints and information on court forms.

Workshop participants will first watch a one-hour webinar presentation and will then have a one-on-one session (in a Zoom breakout room) with a volunteer lawyer to ask questions about their specific situations. 

Neither CCLS nor the volunteer lawyers will provide legal advice to you, act as your lawyer, or handle your appeal.  The workshop is for legal information only.

Upcoming workshops are October 21 and December 16 from 3 – 5 PM. The workshop is held via Zoom.  Participants needing assistance with Zoom are welcome to join from a computer at a CCLS office if arrangements are made in advance.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR ENSURING THAT YOU MEET DEADLINES FOR FILING YOUR NOTICE OF APPEAL AND FOR FOLLOWING ANY OTHER COURT RULES.  DO NOT ASSUME THAT YOU CAN WAIT FOR THE WORKSHOP DATE TO FILE YOUR NOTICE OF APPEAL OR TAKE OTHER REQUIRED ACTIONS.
